Melanie Abramson BA, RMT, Registered Massage Therapist
In 1999 Melanie graduated from Saint Mary’s University with a Bachelor in Psychology. Following that she worked for the South Park YMCA as the Director or Children’s programs. This gave her the opportunity to work with both parents and children in sports, aquatics, leadership courses and first aid training.
During the decision about what to do next she co-developed the Thirty-Something Dance Co-operative, of which she is still a member today.
In the process of rehearsing for a show Melanie sustained various injuries. She went to see her massage therapist and after one treatment was able to rehearse and complete the show. At that point she knew massage therapy was what she wanted to pursue. So Melanie moved to Toronto and entered into the Fast Track program at ICT Kikkawa College, graduating in June 2006. While at Kikkawa she held the president position of the student government and graduated with honours. During the elective weeks she chose to study Sports Massage Therapy and Thai Massage Therapy. After writing the OSCE’s Melanie returned to Halifax and started her career as a massage therapist.
Previous work in Toronto included volunteering with the Toronto Marathon 2006, recreation midget hockey tournaments, People with Aids Toronto and the PushPull Dance Company, of which she was a member while living in Toronto. Areas of interest include deep tissue massage, sports/dance injuries, and myofascial work.
Melanie has since taken additional courses in advanced sport massage therapy and is looking forward to continue working with the therapists at Citadel Physiotherapy.
